Epilepsy and migraine in children: a focus on clinical syndromes and diagnostic pitfalls
نویسنده
چکیده
Epilepsy and migraine are quite common neurological disorders in the worldwide population characterized by episodic, paroxysmal manifestations. A common etiopathogenetical basis has been hypothesized. Peri-ictal headache is present in the majority of the epileptic patients, however, it may be neglected by the patients themselves as seizures represent the predominant disabling symptom. Comorbidity between migraine and several types of epilepsies has been increasingly reported in childhood, however, diagnosis of migraine in children is far to be easy and several symptoms need to be interpreted from the child's behavior. Indeed, clinical manifestations of several epileptic syndromes may imitate migraine and, in contrast, non-epileptic syndromes may imitate epilepsy. According to the etiopathogenetical link between migraine and epilepsy, common therapeutic strategies can be tried in both. The main epileptic syndromes of childhood associated with migraine as well as clinical and therapeutic implications of the comorbidity in children will be focused in the present review.

Fourier Transform Infra Red Spectroscopic Studies on Epilepsy, Migraine and Paralysis
In the present paper, we have studied immunglobulin (IgG) of epileptic children, migraineous and paralytic patients. We have compared our results with normal healthy controls. We found that the bands ranges from 1151.94 to 1168.28 cm-1 due to phospholipids (P-O-C ) group appear in some of the migraineous and paralytic patients only. These bands are absent in normal and epileptic patients. The ...
متن کاملDiagnostic pitfalls of pilomatricoma on fine needle aspiration cytology
Pilomatricoma is a benign skin adnexal tumour usually seen in the head and neck region of children and young adults. It is underrecognized on cytology, resulting in the overdiagnosis of malignancy. We bring forth a case report of a slow growing nodular swelling in a 10-year-old female child, which was misdiagnosed on Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology (FNAC) as a malignant neoplasm and found to be...
متن کاملMigraine and epilepsy: a focus on overlapping clinical, pathophysiological, molecular, and therapeutic aspects.
The association of epilepsy and migraine has been long recognized. Migraine and epilepsy are both chronic disorders with episodic attacks. Furthermore, headache may be a premonitory or postdromic symptom of seizures, and migraine headaches may cause seizures per se (migralepsy). Migraine and epilepsy are comorbid, sharing pathophysiological mechanisms and common clinical features. Several recen...

BACKGROUND Idiopathic epilepsies and epileptic syndromes predominate childhood and adolescence epilepsy. The aim of the present study was to investigate the clinical course and outcome of idiopathic childhood epilepsy and identify variables determining both early and long-term prognosis. METHODS We followed 303 children with newly diagnosed idiopathic epilepsy aged 1-14 years old, both prospe...
